The Beging of the End

People demonstrated outside a Mormon temple in Los Angeles. About 1,000
gay-marriage supporters waved signs and brought afternoon traffic to a halt. On
Thursday, outside the gates of a Mormon temple his father helped build, Kai
Cross joined more than 2,000 gay-rights advocates in a chorus of criticism of
the church's role in the likely passage of a statewide ban on same-sex marriage.
Our Church issued the following statement today:
"It is disturbing that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is being singled out for speaking up as part of its democratic right in a free election.
Members of the Church in California and millions of others from every faith, ethnicity and political affiliation who voted for Proposition 8 exercised the most
sacrosanct and individual rights in the United States — that of free expression
and voting.
While those who disagree with our position on Proposition 8 have the right to make their feelings known, it is wrong to target the Church and its sacred places of worship for being part of the democratic process.
Once again, we call on those involved in the debate over same-sex marriage to act in a spirit of mutual respect and civility towards each other. No one on either side of the question should be vilified, harassed or subject to erroneous information. "
Before anyone acts, do a word search on "persecuted" in the scriptures...
"Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. ...But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
"Thy Will, O Lord, be done."

I used to recite that scripture a lot after I joined the church because of what was happening to me but it is very applicable to this situation. It really makes me sad, but in my mind I say "Bring it on." But not in the mean menacing way. We have the opportunity to show people who we are,or who we should be anyway. I hope the majority of people know that the world is watching, but more important, Heavenly Father is watching.
