Stressed

I've found myself getting more and more stressed lately. Nothing noteworthy, just life piling up. I feel I'm burning the candle at both ends (and in the middle as well).
I had a really bad breakdown the other night. I'm so lucky to have such a wonderful caring husband. He was there at my side through it all I started to calm down and then I stressed myself out even more thinking how much I put him through with my breakdown.
I related to Dr. Dixon on Grey's Anatomy the other night when she freaked out and just needed to be held. It's amazing what a hug can do. "You'll resist it, but then slowly you'll calm down." (not a direct quote, but you get the idea)
When a hug isn't available...I suggest this:
  • Sitting at your desk and feeling stressed? Stop what you are doing - let your arms hang at your sides and wiggle them around a few times to get the circulation going, or rest them on your thighs and close your eyes.
  • Beginning at your feet and working up to your face alternately tighten and relax your muscles.
  • Allow yourself to stay in this relaxed state while you begin to breathe in and out evenly such as this: breathe in 2 counts; breathe out 2 counts; breathe in 2 counts; and continue. Remain silent and still for a minute.
  • Now, stop counting breaths but keep up the even rhythmic breathing, and visualize yourself in a safe and nourishing place in your life; perhaps a happy event from your childhood. You are there again and enjoying yourself. Remembering.
  • After a few minutes come back to the present moment, stretch out; relaxed, renewed.

Her husband does what he does because he loves her, more than he can ever completely and fully express. That is why he tries to be the best man he can be for her - ALWAYS! She deserves nothing less, especially in those moments. He isn't always perfect, but he sure is trying :)
