American Idol Fever

I need to start out by saying that I do not like American Idol even though it's one of Phillip's favorite shows. Some shows I will watch with him just because I enjoy being with him. American Idol is not one of those shows.
I have 3 major issues with AI:
  1. The family members and friends who KNOW their son, daughter, sibling, friend, whatever CANNOT sing. They are completly tone deaf and yet they lie to them, tell them they can sing, actually go with them to the auditions and then laugh in their faces when Simon makes a mockery out of them. Honestly, be nice and tell them they can't sing and shouldn't make a fool of themselves.
  2. Simon. Be kind to your fellow men.
  3. The use of the word idol. There's a song lyric that says "America has no more stars, now we call them idols." That sums it up for me. It's in the big 10 people, no idols. The show is on EVERY NIGHT, it's all anyone talks about for months. Yes, people are "worshiping idols"!

Okay, that being said, last night Phillip was watching AI after I went to bed from the long night of mutual at our house. I was in bed, close to sleep and I hear this marvelous voice singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". I had to find out who it was. The conversation went like this:

Me: (from the other room) Phillip, did that one make it through?
Phil: Which one?
Me: The one who just sang "Over the Rainbow"
Phil: His name is Von. V-O-N. and yes.
Me: Okay, I want him to win.
Phil: (laughing) okay.

So yes, I am a Von fan. Despite my major dislike for the show, I like one of the Idol contestants.

I don't really like American Idol either. I did for one season and that was it. So along with Twilight, I'm protesting/boycotting it.
